One of our new volunteers from Idaho has challenged me to a stocking-sewing contest...hah! BRING IT ON, KIM!! We'll be sewing our fingers off this month (but , of course, I'll win). Anyone else want to join in the fun? Our goal is to sew a minimum of 51 stockings - my goal is to sew one more than Kim. Let the games begin! |

The last two months have been such fun! A Child's Joy has received responses from women all over the country who are helping us to cut out and sew stockings...we now have volunteers in Idaho, California, Kansas, Texas, Minnesota, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. Even more fun, for me, is the box that is delivered every once in a while with beanie babies or teenie beanies that are being lovingly donated for the tops of our stockings. This past month, we received a donation of "Animal Kingdom Collectibles" - pairs of animals (about the size of beanie babies) that come with birth certificates and a story book written especially for that pair of animals. I had never seen them before - they are wonderful! What a great gift for some of our children. Thank you to each and every one of you that has cut out or sewn stockings or donated toys for our children. It's hard to believe that nearly six months of 2010 have gone by already. In another couple of months we'll be putting together our final plans for this year. Enjoy your summer - and we'll see you this fall. Remember to mark you calendars for the second Saturday in December, okay? If you want to help stuff stockings, don't forget to send us an email (

Many, many thanks to Sinclair and the wonderful woman from Sharing Our Gifts for sharing theirs with A Child's Joy. We received many hand knit and crocheted stockings and toys to give to our children this Christmas. They are beautiful! We received many stockings, and toys ranging from a cat/dog to a slug (very cute - love the lips). These will make very special additions to our stockings...thank you so much for your time and effort. it's obvious the love that went into each of these. --Denise |

We continue to be humbled by the generosity of our donors...especially in these economic times. They are so willing to help out people less fortunate than themselves. This year, we received notification that A Child's Joy was the recipient of donations from 60 people...whew...it is truly amazing. I only wish that we knew who all of you were so we could thank you. In fact, most of the donors wished to be 'anonymous'...so we'll just have to thank you here. Know that your generosity will fill stockings for 1,200 children this Christmas - and that over a thousand families will be able to share something with their children on Christmas morning. Thank you, thank you, thank you...you have made their (and my) year. Have a very blessede 2010. --Denise |

One of our volunteers is taking scraps of material from our stockings and sewing them into a beautiful quilt (thank you, Katherine). What a wonderful legacy to this organization - and how fitting that it's sized to fit a child-size bed (twin). We'll be raffling off the quilt in July for our 2010 fundraiser - I've told everyone who will listen (and a lot who ignore me!) that I'm buying all the tickets!!! I have a spare bedroom just WAITING to have that quilt in it this Christmas! Of course, one of the members of our Board of Directors - who has been with us from the beginning - has also put her 'dibs' in for it, too...hah! We'll be at various locations in July - if you see us, come up and say 'hello' - and take a chance on winning this beautiful quilt. It will be a wonderful piece that contains a permanent 'history' of this organization and the stockings that were made with lots of love...made possible by all of our volunteers! Have a blessed week - talk to you soon! -- Denise |
